Harnett County Approves Updated Fire Tax Agreement With Broadway

Harnett County's Board of Commissioners took significant steps during their work session on July 15, 2025, approving an updated interlocal agreement with the town of Broadway and addressing a clerical error in the upcoming budget.

The board unanimously approved the revised interlocal agreement, which now includes provisions for the collection of fire district taxes for the Cape Fear Bridal Fire Department. This update is crucial as it allows the town of Broadway to collect additional taxes on five parcels that were annexed into the town but remain within the county. The agreement, effective July 1, aims to streamline tax collection and ensure that fire protection services are adequately funded.

In another key discussion, the board addressed a clerical error in the special fire district tax levy section of the budget for the fiscal year 2025-2026. The Duke Fire District had been incorrectly listed as Erwin, which is a separate municipality. The correction will ensure that the Duke Fire District is properly recognized in compliance with previous ordinances, although it will not affect the tax rate.
