Planning Commission Considers Truck Route Reclassification for Higley Road Improvements

Higley Road is set to undergo significant changes as Tooele County Planning Commission discusses its reclassification as a truck route to accommodate growing industrial demands. During the July 16 meeting, officials highlighted the need for improvements to the road, which is crucial for supporting new developments in the area, including a cannabis farm located to the south.

Commission members noted that a concept plan has been submitted, proposing enhancements not only to Higley Road but also to additional routes in the vicinity. This move comes after a previous request to designate Higley Road as a truck route was tabled due to concerns from local landowners about increased traffic and road safety.

The commission acknowledged that while the area is compliant with the land use plan, the projected traffic could reach up to 13,683 trips per day, raising questions about the existing infrastructure's capacity to handle such volumes.
