Glover Park Residents Approve Special Exception for Apartment Expansion

A proposal to add three new units to an existing four-unit apartment building in Glover Park received unanimous support during the BZA Public Meeting & Hearing on July 16, 2025. The application, presented by the project’s representative, highlighted that the addition aligns with the RA-1 zoning regulations, which permit low to moderate density development.

The project aims to enhance housing availability in the area, which is predominantly composed of apartment houses. The representative assured that the development would not adversely affect neighboring properties, citing studies that indicated no significant impacts on light, air, or privacy. The footprint of the building will remain unchanged, with only a partial third story being added.

The Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 3B voted unanimously in favor of the project after two meetings, and no opposition was reported during outreach efforts. The Office of Planning also reviewed the application and recommended approval, confirming that it meets the necessary criteria.

Board members expressed their support, emphasizing the need for more housing in the city. The application was approved with a 4-0 vote, marking a significant step towards increasing residential options in Glover Park. The board noted that the project meets all development standards and aligns with community needs, paving the way for its implementation.
