Manassas Park Schools Spotlight Career Education Programs and Student Achievements

The Manassas Park School Board meeting on April 28, 2025, highlighted the growing demand for skilled jobs in Virginia and the crucial role of local public schools in preparing students for these opportunities. Board members expressed pride in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, emphasizing their importance in equipping students with the skills needed for the workforce.

During the meeting, Lisa Wolf and Fatin Hammad presented an overview of the CTE programs, noting that Manassas Park Schools offer eight career clusters, serving over 2,200 students. They reported significant progress, having met seven out of nine performance standards for CTE programs, a notable improvement from the previous year. However, they acknowledged challenges in tracking post-graduation outcomes and increasing participation in nontraditional career paths.

A key highlight was the introduction of a new Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, set to be taught in partnership with the Manassas Park Fire and Rescue. This initiative aims to address local workforce needs while providing students with valuable certifications. The board also discussed expanding credential options, allowing students to graduate with multiple certifications, enhancing their employability.

Students from the CTE program shared insights from a recent survey indicating strong interest in new courses such as Automotive Technology and HVAC. Their findings underscored the demand for more diverse CTE offerings, reflecting students' aspirations for practical skills that align with job market needs.

In addition to CTE discussions, board members congratulated the music department for its achievements, recognizing the dedication of students and staff. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue enhancing educational programs that support student success and community needs. As the school division looks ahead, the focus remains on fostering partnerships and expanding opportunities for students to thrive in a competitive job market.
