KIPP Texas updates emergency operation plan and cybersecurity measures following safety audit

The KTX Safety & Security Committee of KIPP Texas Public Schools convened on July 17, 2025, to discuss crucial updates to the district's emergency operation plan (EOP) and cybersecurity measures, reflecting a commitment to enhancing safety protocols for students and staff.

A significant focus of the meeting was the revision of the EOP, which included updates to meeting dates and changes in committee leadership. Notably, a new formal adoption statement was introduced, requiring signatures from key safety personnel. This update aims to ensure that the emergency operation plan remains current and effective in addressing safety concerns.

In addition to the EOP revisions, the committee highlighted the recent approval of a comprehensive cybersecurity annex by the Texas School Safety Center. This annex builds upon an existing incident response plan developed by the information technology department, reinforcing the district's commitment to cybersecurity. A new emphasis on appointing a cybersecurity coordinator at each school was also discussed, alongside plans for enhanced training to address evolving cybersecurity threats.

The meeting also addressed the ongoing intruder detection audits mandated by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). These audits are designed to assess the effectiveness of access management protocols across KIPP Texas schools. So far, 43 schools have undergone audits, resulting in 10 findings that will be addressed with corrective actions. The committee expressed satisfaction with the improvements made since previous audits, indicating a proactive approach to school safety.

As the committee concluded, it reassured the community that even schools not audited by the TEA would still undergo internal safety assessments, ensuring that all KIPP Texas schools maintain high safety standards. The discussions underscored the district's dedication to creating a secure learning environment for all students and staff, aligning with broader community safety goals.
