The meeting revealed that KIPP Texas is currently pausing submissions for financial aid applications to allow the system to resolve issues from a beta testing phase. Last year, many low-income students faced significant barriers in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) due to technical glitches, particularly affecting families without Social Security numbers. This led to a notable drop in FAFSA completion rates among low-income students, undermining the original intent of the legislation aimed at easing access to financial aid.

In response to these challenges, KIPP Texas is committed to learning from past experiences to ensure that students do not encounter similar obstacles this year. The board emphasized the need for effective communication and support for families to understand their options.

Additionally, discussions included enhancing career readiness for students. Board members proposed increasing internship and co-op opportunities for high school seniors to help them explore potential career paths. This initiative aims to provide practical experience and better prepare students for college and future employment. KIPP Texas is also reviewing its Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways to align them with student interests and college readiness.
