Lake Dallas Middle School Students Win Multiple Platinum Awards for Art and Leadership

Lake Dallas Middle School shone brightly at the recent awards ceremony, capturing over 10% of the total platinum honors presented. The event celebrated the artistic talents of students, with several individuals recognized for their outstanding work. Notable winners included Natalie Callan, Teddy Dung Kai, Claire Kennedy, Adelaide Lee, Elizabeth Rivero, Olive Thompson, Maribel Valencia, and Hayden Wade, each receiving platinum medals for their impressive artworks ranging from photography to sculpture.

In addition to the artistic accolades, the middle school’s Student Council (STUCO) received significant recognition for their leadership and community service. John Favro, the STUCO advisor, highlighted three prestigious awards: the National Gold Council of Excellence, the Texas Association of Outstanding Student Council Award, and the Texas Association of Student Council Sweepstakes Award. This marks the tenth consecutive year that Lake Dallas has achieved these honors, showcasing the dedication and hard work of student leaders like Isaac Birds Eye, Kinley Strong, Braxton Smith, Eva Norwood, and Lexi Matsakis.

The STUCO has been actively involved in community service, reporting over 2,500 volunteer hours this semester alone. Their initiatives include a canned food drive, Red Ribbon Week activities, and preparations for a back-to-school fair. Favro expressed immense pride in the students, stating, “These students truly make a difference in our schools and community.”

As the meeting progressed, the Lake Dallas High School Falcon Band also received recognition for their achievements at the UIL solo and ensemble contest, further emphasizing the district's commitment to excellence in both the arts and leadership. The evening was a celebration of student accomplishments, reflecting the vibrant spirit of the Lake Dallas ISD community.
