Sub Tavern Hosts Drug Overdose Awareness Event with Garden Street Closure

In the heart of Logansport, city officials gathered under the bright lights of the council chamber, ready to address pressing community matters. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as members of the Board of Public Works and Safety convened on July 17, 2025, to discuss initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety and infrastructure.

One of the first items on the agenda was a significant community event organized by the Sub Tavern. Scheduled for August 9, the establishment plans to host a drug overdose awareness event, running from 10 AM to midnight. To facilitate this important initiative, the council approved a request to close Garden Street from Bates Street to the alley north of the tavern. This street closure, familiar to residents from last year’s event, was met with unanimous support, reflecting the community's commitment to addressing the pressing issue of drug overdoses.

Following this, the council turned its attention to infrastructure improvements. Case Construction submitted applications for curb street cuts at three locations: 820 Sunset Drive, 606 South Siket Street, and 858 Garfield Street. The work, which includes hot patching and crack filling, is set to begin on July 20 and July 25. The council swiftly approved these applications, ensuring that the streets remain safe and well-maintained for residents.

As the meeting progressed, Code Enforcement Officer Randy provided updates on ongoing efforts to maintain community standards. Last week, his team issued 12 new notices for trash violations, successfully clearing 61 from previous weeks. While 51 cases remain pending, the proactive measures taken by the department included issuing citations and tagging vehicles that were in violation. The council learned that 24 new notices for grass violations were also sent out, with several properties already cleared.

The discussions highlighted the city’s dedication to fostering a clean and safe environment for its residents.
