Mercer Island Celebrates Summer with Parade Live Music and Spectacular Fireworks Show

The Mercer Island Arts Council meeting on July 16, 2025, highlighted the success of the recent Summer Celebration, which drew large crowds and featured a vibrant parade, live music, and a spectacular fireworks display. Over 37 groups participated in the parade, followed by a bustling festival at Mercerdale Park with more than 70 vendor booths, food trucks, and engaging activities like a foam party and circus acts. The event raised over $5,500 through paid parking, directly supporting future community events.

In addition to the celebration recap, the council announced the completion of the restoration of the wetlands mural at the Luther Burbank pickleball courts. This project involved repairing damage and enhancing the mural's visibility, ensuring it remains a focal point for the heavily used courts.

Looking ahead, the council is excited about the upcoming "Mostly Music in the Park" concert series, kicking off with a Beatles tribute band. This six-week series will feature food trucks, arts and crafts, and games, supported by local sponsors. Additionally, "Bridal in the Park" is set for August 7, promising food, activities, and a puppy party.

The meeting also noted the ongoing success of open studio art sessions led by council member Irene Rajagopal, which will resume in the fall after a summer break. The current art show at the community center, Maibol's Junior Art Show, runs through August 22, with a call for entries for a community photography show open until August 7.
