Fargo's Historic Preservation Commission has taken a significant step towards preserving the architectural integrity of a historic home built in 1910. During the meeting on July 15, 2025, the commission reviewed a proposal to demolish the existing porch of the Victorian-style house and replace it with a new front porch addition.

The applicant, represented by project representative Kevin Jong, presented a structural report from Enzi Engineering, which highlighted safety concerns due to settling and structural issues with the current porch. The report detailed cracking and sloping that posed risks to the integrity of the structure. The proposed new porch aims to restore the home’s historical aesthetic while addressing these safety concerns.

The new design will feature LP smart side pebbled stucco panel siding, intended to match the historical appearance of the house, as evidenced by archival photos provided by the applicant. The proposed porch will measure approximately 8 feet by 22 feet, maintaining the size of the existing structure.

The commission expressed support for the proposal, indicating a positive reception to the efforts aimed at preserving the home’s historical character while ensuring its safety. This decision reflects the ongoing commitment of Fargo's Historic Preservation Commission to balance modern needs with the preservation of the city’s architectural heritage.
