Ocala Chamber Highlights Business Support and Celebrates 13-Year County Partnership

During a recent budget workshop held by the Marion County Board of County Commissioners, discussions highlighted the importance of community partnerships and the ongoing efforts to support local businesses. The meeting, which took place on July 17, 2025, featured contributions from various stakeholders, including judges, magistrates, and representatives from the Ocala Metro Chamber and Economic Partnership (CEP).

A key focus of the meeting was the acknowledgment of the hard work and dedication of the judicial system in Marion County. Commissioners expressed their gratitude for the judges and magistrates who handle challenging cases, often dealing with individuals during their most difficult times. This recognition underscores the vital role that the judicial system plays in maintaining community stability and supporting families through various legal challenges.

Tamara Flyshocker from the CEP shared updates on the organization's initiatives, emphasizing the significance of partnerships in fostering economic growth. She noted that the CEP has been instrumental in launching programs that assist local businesses, particularly through their Catalyst Fund, which provides matching grants and nano loans to entrepreneurs. This funding has already helped over 130 individuals in underserved communities, particularly in Silver Spring Shores, where the CEP operates a business incubator.

The incubator currently hosts five businesses and offers training programs aimed at empowering local entrepreneurs. Flyshocker highlighted a recent lending event that connected over 80 businesses with financial institutions, facilitating access to credit and traditional banking systems. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the local economy and support business development in Marion County.

Commissioner Curry raised a point about the historical significance of the CEP, urging the organization to celebrate its rich history dating back to 1887. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of past members and the foundation they laid for the current successes of the CEP. This call for historical acknowledgment reflects a desire to honor the legacy of community engagement and support that has shaped Marion County over the years.
