Los Alamos Prepares Survey for Residents Amid Sewage System Upgrades

In a recent meeting of the Los Alamos County Board of Public Utilities, key discussions highlighted ongoing community engagement efforts and infrastructure challenges. Another significant topic was the update on the wheeling agreement with Hemet's Mountain Electric Cooperative, established in 1985. The cooperative has requested a revision to accommodate major capital projects aimed at upgrading electric transmission lines. The board also addressed the Western Area Sewer main reroute project, which has faced delays since its approval in March. The project aims to resolve sewage issues exacerbated by flushable wipes and grease accumulation, which have caused backups. A review revealed over 170 homes with problematic sewer connections, prompting the board to initiate a video inspection program to identify the most critical cases. This will inform future capital planning for necessary repairs.

Additionally, the board discussed the importance of having a member present for an upcoming WaterWell tour on August 8, which would facilitate the use of the Atomic City transit bus for the event.
