Elizabeth Tallgus advocates for accessible taxi services in Waupaca due to disability needs

One resident, a retired veteran, highlighted the difficulties faced by individuals who rely on Caturide, a local transportation service. He noted that the requirement to schedule rides 24 hours in advance often leads to cancellations, which disrupts essential travel for work and medical appointments. He emphasized the importance of Waupaca Taxi, stating it has been a dependable service for him and others in the community. He urged the council to consider maintaining or expanding the hours of operation for Waupaca Taxi to better serve residents in need.

Another resident, Elizabeth Tallgus, shared her personal experience with transportation challenges following the amputation of her leg. She explained that her inability to drive has made her reliant on taxis for medical appointments, particularly to facilities like the Mayo Clinic. Tallgus criticized the current system that requires individuals to purchase a van under specific conditions to receive accessible transportation, arguing that it is financially unfeasible for many residents. She praised Waupaca Taxi for its wheelchair-accessible vehicles and called on the council to prioritize transportation solutions for elderly and disabled residents.
