Wicomico County Council Approves Legislative Bills and Resolutions for 2025

The Wicomico County Council convened on July 15, 2025, to address several key legislative matters, including public hearings on two significant bills and resolutions aimed at enhancing county operations and services.

The council unanimously approved Legislative Bill 2025-09, which amends the county code regarding vehicle identification. This legislation mandates that county vehicle decals be affixed uniformly to both doors, ensuring consistent identification of county vehicles. Additionally, it allows employees of the Wicomico County Circuit Court to use their personal vehicles for official business and receive mileage reimbursement, addressing a gap in the previous regulations.

Another major discussion centered on Legislative Bill 2025-08, which seeks to amend the county code to require council approval for contracts involving professional services. Although the public hearing was held, the council opted to postpone the vote to allow for further data collection by the finance director, ensuring that all necessary information is available for future consideration.

The council also passed Resolution 98-2025, which allocates $40,000 from the prior fiscal year’s budget for renovations at the Child Advocacy Center, funded by narcotics task force resources. This resolution aims to enhance facilities that support vulnerable children in the community.

Furthermore, Resolution 99-2025 was approved, which accepts grant funds for Leave for Life, Inc., a vendor for the local management board, totaling $94,968.80. This funding is part of the community reinvestment and repair initiative, aimed at bolstering local support services.
