Longmeadow School Committee Approves Out-of-State Tuition Student Enrollment Request

Longmeadow Public Schools' School Committee made significant strides during their meeting on July 16, 2025, with key decisions impacting the community's educational landscape.

The committee approved an amendment to the food service contract with Fresh Picks Cafe, which has been the district's provider for seven years. This amendment marks the third year of a five-year agreement, allowing for a slight increase in fees. The administrative fee will rise from 23 cents to 23.6 cents per meal, while the management fee will increase from 7 cents to 7.2 cents per meal. This change is expected to result in an additional cost of approximately $2,600 for the upcoming school year, based on current participation levels.

In addition, the committee greenlit a building use request from the Longmeadow Parks and Recreation Department for a coed basketball clinic for grades 6 through 9, scheduled from August 11 to August 15, 2025, at Longmeadow High School. This initiative aims to engage students in physical activities during the summer months.

Another notable decision was the acceptance of an out-of-state student into Longmeadow High School through a tuition program. The tuition rate was set at $17,275, and the funds will be allocated to a revolving account to help offset future educational costs, particularly in special education. This marks a rare occurrence, as it has been several years since the district has enrolled a tuition-based student.
