Texas Peer Support Program Reports Increases in Nurse Participation and Outreach Efforts

The Texas Board of Nursing convened on July 17, 2025, to discuss significant updates regarding nursing referrals, outreach efforts, and program improvements aimed at enhancing support for nurses across the state.

During the meeting, it was reported that the number of referrals increased from 153 to 162 this quarter, indicating a growing awareness among nurses and employers about the importance of seeking help early. Active cases in the program also saw a slight rise, from 612 to 617. The board highlighted the signing of 49 new participation agreements, maintaining consistency in engagement with nurses statewide.

A key focus of the meeting was the expansion of outreach efforts through social media. The board has increased its presence on platforms such as Instagram and Blue Sky, alongside LinkedIn, to better connect with a diverse audience. Additionally, a new newsletter aimed at peer support was introduced, providing resources and stories to encourage nurse involvement in the program.

The board also discussed proposed changes to the program's structure, known as the matrix, which guides participant placements. These changes aim to enhance person-centered care while ensuring accountability. Notably, the program now offers three distinct tracks for mental health support, expanding beyond substance use disorders to include general mental health assistance.

The meeting concluded with an open forum, inviting public input on nursing regulations and practices. However, no members of the public chose to speak during this time.
