Residents Demand City Action on Weybridge Kuriloo Trails Bridge Closure

The City Commission of Dunedin, Florida, convened on July 19, 2025, to address several pressing community concerns, primarily focusing on the closure of a public bridge and the deteriorating conditions of local ditches.

The meeting began with public comments regarding the bridge connecting Weybridge and Curlew Trails. A resident emphasized the bridge's public status and the city's obligation to maintain it. Debbie Rowe, another local resident, echoed these sentiments, stating that the majority of homeowners in the area support reopening the bridge. She urged the commission to allocate funds for necessary legal work to establish a public easement while the community still shows overwhelming support.

The meeting also addressed concerns about local ditches, particularly Cedar Creek. Jim Cowger presented evidence of damage to his property due to the creek's poor condition, including cracking floors and erosion. He called for a permanent solution, such as piping the ditch, to prevent further damage. Gloria Settlemeyer, another resident, shared her long-term observations of the ditch's deterioration and criticized the city's maintenance efforts, suggesting that better materials and methods could stabilize the area.

The commission acknowledged the residents' concerns and indicated that discussions regarding the bridge would continue during upcoming budget workshops. The meeting concluded with a commitment to further investigate the issues raised, particularly the maintenance of public infrastructure and the safety of local roadways.
