Francis Howell School Board Reviews Strategic Plan and Welcomes Community Feedback

The Frank Stuyvesant School District Board of Education convened on July 17, 2025, to discuss strategic goals and community engagement, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting was led by President Blair, who emphasized the district's strategic plan, which focuses on four key pillars: teaching and learning, people and workforce, finance and operations, and safety and security. Following the opening remarks, Chief Communications Officer Jennifer Joles provided an update on the strategic plan's implementation. She reported on efforts to familiarize school leaders and district administrators with the plan's goals and key performance indicators. Joles noted that a significant gathering of about 150 administrators and teacher leaders had taken place to align school improvement plans with the district's strategic objectives. She also mentioned an upcoming all-admin retreat aimed at further discussing the plan, with a substantial progress report expected at the October board meeting.

The meeting transitioned to patron comments, allowing community members to address the board. Grayson Justice, an alumnus, expressed gratitude for the reinstatement of the educational tool BrainPOP, advocating for its value in modern education. Justice also addressed the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, asserting that these principles are fundamental American values. He voiced opposition to a third-party review of educational materials, expressing concerns about potential biases.

The board concluded the meeting with a commitment to continue engaging with the community and ensuring that the strategic plan remains a guiding framework for the district's future. The next steps include further updates on the strategic plan's progress and continued dialogue with stakeholders.
