Long Beach Launches Neighbor to Neighbor Fund to Support Immigrant Communities

The Long Beach City Council has officially launched the “Long Beach Neighbors Supporting Neighbors” Fund, a new initiative aimed at providing critical support to families facing crises in the community. This fund is designed to assist residents in overcoming challenges such as loss of income, housing instability, and food insecurity, ensuring that no neighbor has to face these hardships alone.

During the announcement, community leaders emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the needs of Long Beach residents. The California Community Foundation has pledged $100,000 to kickstart the fund, inviting philanthropic partners and civic leaders to contribute and strengthen this vital support network. Yvonne Wheeler, president of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, highlighted the significant role of immigrant communities in the local economy and the challenges they face due to fear of deportation.
