Escondido Proclaims July 8 as MAC Day to Honor Anti-Poverty Efforts

The meeting commenced with a proclamation recognizing July 8, 2025, as "MAC Day" in Escondido. Mayor Dana M. White highlighted the Metropolitan Area Advisory Committee on Anti-Poverty (MAC) of San Diego County, which has been active since 1965. The organization serves over 100,000 individuals annually across five key areas: economic development, education, health and well-being, housing, and advocacy. The mayor noted MAC's substantial impact, reporting an economic contribution of over $200 million per year and the development of affordable housing, including 1,142 homes in its portfolio.

Following this, the council honored the late Phil Henry, a prominent figure in the community and a leader at Henry Avocado Corporation, by proclaiming July 16, 2025, as "Phil Henry Day." Mayor White reflected on Henry's deep roots in Escondido's agricultural heritage and his extensive philanthropic efforts, which included support for local organizations such as the Escondido Foundation and the YMCA. The mayor emphasized Henry's legacy of civic responsibility and community spirit, acknowledging the profound impact he had on the city.
