Council Discusses Engineering Costs for Breezy Hill Splash Pad and Park Improvements

The City of Terrell is moving forward with plans for the Breezy Hills Splash Pad, a project that aims to enhance recreational opportunities for families in the community. During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the engineering costs associated with the project, which total approximately $165,000. This funding will cover the design and layout of the splash pad, as well as necessary parking and street connections.

The splash pad is expected to be a popular addition, especially given the high demand for such facilities in the area. However, concerns were raised regarding the costs and maintenance associated with splash pads compared to traditional pools. While a splash pad may cost around $150,000, it does not require the same level of staffing as a pool, making it a more manageable option for the city.

City officials are considering a partnership where the city would fund the engineering costs while the Park and Downtown Improvement Corporation would cover the capital improvements. This collaborative approach could help alleviate financial burdens and ensure the project moves forward.

Additionally, discussions included the potential removal of Polk Street to create more green space and parking for the park. This change would transform the area into a more cohesive recreational space, connecting different parts of the park while enhancing accessibility.

The meeting also highlighted the need for a toddler area within the park, as the splash pad will primarily serve younger children. While the current playground lacks a designated space for toddlers, officials acknowledged that incorporating such features could further enrich the park's offerings.
