School Board Reviews Special Ed Budget Increase and Technology Reductions

During the recent RSU 22 budget meeting, key discussions centered around the allocation of funds for special education and instructional technology, highlighting the district's commitment to enhancing educational support for students.

A significant point of discussion was the proposed $106,000 increase for a new Individualized Education Program (IEP) coordinator, which falls under the special education budget. This addition aims to strengthen the support system for students with special needs, ensuring they receive the necessary resources and guidance. The budget also includes funding for two special education administrators, an administrative assistant, and both a K-8 and a 9-12 IEP coordinator, totaling five dedicated staff members in this area.

In addition to special education, the meeting addressed the instructional technology budget. There was a consensus to eliminate a proposed $31,000 for projectors and sound systems in middle schools, which will result in a considerable reduction in that budget line. However, the district plans to maintain funding for new iPads, ensuring that students have access to modern technology for their learning.
