Hamden Academy Honors Three Retirees for Over 78 Years of Combined Service

The RSU 22 District Board meeting held on June 12, 2025, focused on recognizing the contributions of retiring staff members and acknowledging the service of departing board members.

During the meeting, the board celebrated three retirees from Hamden Academy: Sue Harrison, Peter Jenkins, and Cheryl Mayo. Each retiree was honored for their extensive service, with a combined total of 78 years in education. Sue Harrison, with 25 years of experience, was recognized for her dedication to special education, where she made a significant impact on students with disabilities. Peter Jenkins, who served for 26 years, was noted for his roles as a physical education teacher and educational technician, particularly for his ability to connect with students facing behavioral challenges. Cheryl Mayo, with 27 years in food service, was commended for her commitment to ensuring that all students received meals, often going above and beyond to support those in need.

Cheryl expressed her gratitude during her farewell speech, reflecting on her rewarding career and the relationships she built within the school community. She emphasized the importance of giving 100% to her role and acknowledged the support she received from her colleagues.
