Aldermen Approve Truck Route Amendments and Concert Contracts for Bank Plus Amphitheater

The Southaven Mayor and Board of Aldermen made significant strides in improving local traffic safety and entertainment options during their meeting on June 3, 2025.

A key highlight was the unanimous approval of a resolution to amend the truck route ordinance in the city. This change aims to enhance traffic flow and safety, particularly around the newly planned hotel convention center near the Lander Center. Alderman Hoots emphasized the importance of minimizing left turns by trucks on Church Road, directing them instead to Highway 51. “You obviously can't have 18 wheelers going through a resort area,” he stated, underscoring the need for this adjustment. The amendment will also prohibit trucks on Pepperchase and Venture Drive, further protecting residential areas from heavy vehicle traffic.

In addition to traffic safety, the board approved contracts for upcoming concerts at the Bank Plus Amphitheater, featuring popular acts like Kansas and 3 Dog Night. City Attorney Nick Manley confirmed that these contracts are standard lease agreements, ensuring a smooth process for the events.

The meeting concluded with both initiatives receiving strong support from the board, signaling a commitment to enhancing community safety and entertainment in Southaven. As these changes take effect, residents can expect a more organized traffic system and exciting events in the near future.
