Elliott Baseball Fields Seek Expansion on Geiger Elementary School Property

The Lewiston Public Schools School Committee convened on July 21, 2025, to discuss a proposal regarding the Elliott Baseball Fields, which are adjacent to Geiger Elementary School. The proposal includes the possibility of crossing a property line owned by Lewiston Public Schools to create a third full-size playing field. This would involve minor adjustments to the existing layout of the fields, which have not been fully utilized in recent years. The board has reached out to various companies for estimates on the necessary improvements.

A letter from the Cal Ripken board president expressed gratitude for the committee's consideration of the request to explore easement options for the underdeveloped land adjacent to Geiger Elementary. The letter emphasized the importance of the Elliott Fields for local youth and the community's commitment to fundraising for facility upgrades.

Committee members expressed support for the initiative, with discussions around the feasibility of leasing the land for a nominal fee to facilitate the expansion. Concerns were raised about the environmental impact, particularly regarding tree removal, but overall, there was a consensus on the importance of supporting youth sports in the community.
