Southaven City Council Approves Agreement with Nesbitt Water Association for Water Services

In a significant step towards improving water service in Southaven, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen approved an agreement with the Nesbitt Water Association during their recent meeting on July 15, 2025. This agreement, which is contingent upon approval from the Public Service Commission (PSC) and final consent from Nesbitt Water, aims to streamline water service delivery in overlapping areas of the two entities.

The agreement specifically addresses a section of the Nesbitt Water Association's certificate area that overlaps with Southaven's corporate limits, particularly along Long Star Landing Road, extending from I-55 eastward to Getwell Road. Under the new arrangement, Nesbitt Water will continue to provide water services to its customers in this area, except for specific zones north of Star Landing and west of Getwell, which will now be serviced by Southaven.

This transition will allow Southaven to take over water service responsibilities in certain neighborhoods, including parts of the Magnolia Glen Subdivision and areas adjacent to Sweeney Road. In return, Nesbitt Water will continue to collect sewer fees for these areas at a rate of $1.75 per meter per month, ensuring that residents receive consistent billing for sewer services.

The agreement is expected to enhance operational efficiency and improve service delivery for residents in the affected areas. The Mayor emphasized the collaborative efforts of city officials and engineers from both Southaven and Nesbitt Water in crafting this agreement, which is seen as a positive move for the community.

With the motion passed, the next steps involve awaiting PSC approval to finalize the agreement, marking a proactive approach to managing water resources and infrastructure in Southaven.
