CoreWeave Plans Major AI Data Center Development in Hammond at Digital Crossroads Drive

A transformative project is set to reshape Hammond, Indiana, as CoreWeave, a leading AI cloud computing company, plans to establish a new data center on a 25-acre site at 301 Digital Crossroads Drive. This initiative marks the second major development in the area, previously home to one of the nation’s most polluting energy plants, which has been vacant for years.

During the Hammond Redevelopment Commission meeting, city officials expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its potential to create hundreds of construction jobs and generate significant revenue for the city. The agreement includes a 100% personal property tax exemption for 20 years and a 10-year real estate tax exemption, which will ultimately yield approximately $4.1 million in community impact payments to the city.

Scott, the chief of staff, emphasized that this funding could secure a permanent financial source for the College Bound program, a long-desired initiative by the city council. Over the next 20 years, the city anticipates receiving around $80 million from this investment.

CoreWeave's new facility is expected to deliver 180 megawatts of capacity, with operations projected to begin in 2027. The company, which has recently gone public, operates 33 data centers globally and is poised to double its revenue this year. The project is not only a significant economic boost for Hammond but also positions Indiana as a key player in the AI sector.

As the redevelopment moves forward, city officials and CoreWeave representatives expressed gratitude for the collaborative support received from various stakeholders, setting the stage for a promising future in Hammond.
