Kings Mountain High School Touchdown Club Seeks Additional $750000 for Stadium Renovation

In a meeting filled with significant updates and proposals, the Cleveland County Schools Board of Education convened on July 21, 2025, to discuss crucial developments impacting local schools. The total cost of the project is estimated at $4 million, with the Touchdown Club pledging to cover any expenses exceeding the requested amount. This ambitious project also includes plans for a wrestling room, which would be constructed at no cost to the district. The finance committee unanimously supported the proposal, which is set to be reviewed by the full board later in the meeting.

In addition to the stadium project, Rob McDaniel provided an update on the state budget, noting that while a budget has yet to be finalized, proposed allotments suggest a hopeful increase in funding once approved. He also addressed the impact of a federal budget freeze, indicating that carryover funds will be utilized to cover salaries, particularly for essential programs like EC and Title 1, which have not been significantly affected.

Dr. Jennifer Wampler shared a staffing update for the upcoming school year, highlighting efforts to recruit and retain qualified personnel. A retention bonus of $525 is planned for September 2025 for certain educational service providers, funded through remaining PRC 118 money, which expires in December. Additionally, a $500 monthly supplement will be offered to EC teachers with advanced degrees, contingent on the availability of funds.

The meeting also touched on payroll updates and board member compensation, with discussions aimed at ensuring clarity for staff regarding payment processes.

As the meeting progressed, safety and operational updates were shared, including a report on safety plans for athletic events and the completion of door lock projects across schools. The district's commitment to safety was further emphasized with a grant application for $625,000 aimed at enhancing school safety measures, with results expected in September.
