School Events Implement Clear Bag Policy for Safety and Security

The Godley Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees convened on July 21, 2025, to discuss several key initiatives aimed at enhancing safety and enjoyment at school events. The meeting focused on the implementation of a clear bag policy and other regulations designed to improve the overall experience for attendees.

The board proposed adopting a clear bag policy, which would allow only specific types of bags at high school events. Acceptable options include clear PVC or vinyl bags measuring 12 by 6 by 12 inches, one-gallon resealable bags, or small clutches. Exceptions to this policy would be made for diaper bags accompanied by infants and medically necessary items. The intent behind this policy is to create a safer environment for all participants, aligning with practices observed in other districts such as Granbury, Joshua, and Mansfield.

In addition to the bag policy, the board emphasized that middle school students and younger children must be accompanied by an adult at high school events. This measure aims to ensure a point of contact for safety and assistance during events. High school students will be required to present their IDs upon entry.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of fostering sportsmanship and community relationships through the Texas Way initiative, which promotes respect, self-control, and a spirit of competition. The board reiterated that certain items would be prohibited at events, including coolers, backpacks, outside food and drinks, and any disruptive behavior.
