Community Development Director Rebecca Everett outlines upcoming land use hearings

During the Larimer County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) work session held on July 21, 2025, Community Development Director Rebecca Everett provided a comprehensive update on upcoming land use hearings and the hiring process for a new county building official. Everett outlined the agenda for the upcoming land use hearings scheduled for July 28, which will feature a mix of items including land divisions, code amendments, and discussions on short-term rentals. The afternoon session will include three items on consent and three for discussion, while the evening session will address a conservation development and an appeal. Given the packed agenda, Everett noted the possibility of rescheduling items if discussions run long, emphasizing the importance of thorough deliberation.

A significant point of discussion was the August 11 land use hearing, where Commissioner Stevens will be absent. Everett recommended postponing three discussion items to ensure a full board is present for decision-making. This suggestion raised concerns among commissioners about the potential impact on applicants who have been waiting for their cases to be heard. Commissioner Shanae Kamali expressed sensitivity to the applicants' needs and suggested that staff reach out to them to gauge their preferences regarding the delay.

In addition to land use matters, Everett reported on the hiring process for a new county building official, following the retirement of Eric Fried in September. After conducting interviews with three final candidates, Everett decided to leave the position vacant temporarily. This decision aims to facilitate a smooth transition and allow for a re-advertisement of the position later in the fall.
