Uvalde CISD Elects Laura Perez as Board President and Recognizes Motivate Our Students Program

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) held a regular meeting on July 21, 2025, focusing on the reorganization of board officers and recognizing community contributions to student engagement.

The meeting commenced with the election of board officers. Laura Perez was unanimously elected as the board president, following a motion by Trustee Suarez and a second by Trustee Gonzales. Next, Trustee Gonzales was nominated and confirmed as vice president, with support from Trustees Flores and Perez. The board then elected Jesse Riso as secretary, with a motion from Trustee Flores and a second from Trustee Perez, also receiving unanimous approval.

Following the officer elections, the board recognized the founders and funders of "Motivate Our Students Texas" (MOST), an initiative that had a successful inaugural year. Ms. Anne Marie Espinosa highlighted the program's achievements, including 55 learning expeditions for students with perfect attendance, engaging nearly 6,000 students. The program, funded entirely by Dr. Edwin Eli Whitney, provided opportunities for students to explore various careers without any cost to the district. Espinosa acknowledged the contributions of Bruce Baker and Dan Eason, who facilitated connections that made the program possible.

The meeting concluded with a sense of gratitude for community support and a commitment to enhancing student attendance and engagement through innovative programs. The board's next steps include continuing to foster partnerships that benefit students and the district.
