District Launches Year Two Perfect Attendance Challenge with New Learning Expeditions

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is gearing up for an exciting second year of its learning expeditions program, which aims to enhance student engagement and attendance through unique educational experiences. During a recent meeting, district officials shared plans for the upcoming school year, highlighting the positive impact of last year's pilot program and the adjustments made based on feedback.

The inaugural year of the learning expeditions saw students participating in various trips, from visits to the OxRanch to excursions to the zoo. These experiences not only created lasting memories but also emphasized the importance of school attendance. The district reported that students returned from these trips with enthusiasm, expressing gratitude and excitement about their experiences.

For the 2025-2026 school year, Uvalde CISD will implement a more structured approach to its perfect attendance challenges. These challenges will now occur in six-week increments across all schools, ensuring consistency for families with children in different grades. The first challenge will kick off on the first day of school, with students earning opportunities to participate in learning expeditions based on their attendance.

The district has also developed a new academic calendar featuring 165 instructional days, safeguarding valuable classroom time. Learning expeditions will be scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays, and other non-instructional days, allowing for a more relaxed experience without the pressure of returning to school for dismissal.

Students will have the chance to visit various locations tailored to their grade levels, including a magician show for younger students and a trip to Lackland Air Force Base for high schoolers. The district has secured reservations for these trips and is committed to ensuring student safety and communication throughout the process.

In addition to the logistical improvements, Uvalde CISD is enhancing its communication strategies to keep parents informed about the learning expeditions and attendance challenges. The district plans to utilize its learning management platforms and mass communication tools to ensure families are aware of upcoming events and requirements.
