Penfield School District Introduces Ex Officio Student Members to School Board

The Penfield Central School District Board of Education held its organizational meeting on July 15, 2025, focusing on key updates regarding safety protocols and student representation on the board.

During the meeting, board members expressed gratitude for the leadership of George, a key figure in the district's health and safety initiatives. His contributions, along with those of Ted Wilson, the district's safety and security coordinator, were acknowledged for their efforts in reviewing emergency response plans with building principals and families. The board opened the floor for public comments on the emergency response plan, inviting residents to share their thoughts or email the district clerk by August 14, 2025.

In a significant update, the superintendent announced the introduction of ex officio student members to the board, a requirement for New York State school districts with high schools starting July 1. The district has historically included student representatives, but this year marked the first formal selection process. Students from grades ten to twelve were invited to apply, with interviews conducted by school officials and a former student representative. Three students, along with an alternate, will join the board, ensuring diverse perspectives from the elementary level.
