Skagit County Fair Prepares for 126th Anniversary with New Events and Community Support

The Skagit County Board of Commissioners convened on July 22, 2025, to kick off the much-anticipated annual Skagit County Fair, marking its 126th anniversary. Fairgrounds Manager Eric Gaither highlighted the fair's significance as the longest-running event in the county, emphasizing the extensive preparations and community involvement that make it a cherished tradition.

Gaither reported that the fairgrounds have become a year-round hub for community events, hosting approximately 45 public gatherings annually. This year, the fair is expected to attract between 28,000 to 30,000 attendees, showcasing over 600 livestock entries and 100 shopping vendors, with a strong focus on supporting local businesses. The fair will feature a variety of activities, including performances from local artists, educational exhibits, and family-friendly events.

Frances Ngranzu, the assistant manager, introduced new initiatives aimed at enhancing community engagement, such as the Skagit Farm Circle, which educates third graders about agriculture. The fair will also host community-focused days, including a diaper drive that allows attendees to enter for free by donating diapers.

The meeting also celebrated the contributions of volunteers and local organizations, with a special mention of the new 4-H program coordinator, Nicole Jones. She expressed excitement about the upcoming fair and the opportunities it provides for youth to showcase their hard work and skills.

As the fair approaches, the community is encouraged to participate and support local causes, with various fundraising efforts planned throughout the event. The fair promises to be a vibrant celebration of Skagit County's agricultural heritage and community spirit, bringing together residents for a weekend of fun and learning.
