Garver’s Shannon Wells Updates on Stripling Road Project Progress and Utility Coordination

In a recent meeting held in Madison County, Mississippi, officials gathered to discuss the ongoing developments of Stribling Road, a crucial project connecting Highway 463 to Dewees Road. Shannon Wells from Garver presented updates on the project, highlighting significant progress in various areas.

Wells reported that the environmental report is nearing completion and will soon be submitted to the Corps of Engineers, pending a few final design elements. The project has received written clearance from the state’s archives regarding cultural resources, clearing a significant hurdle. Traffic analysis has confirmed the need for a five-lane configuration throughout the entire segment, which is deemed optimal for future traffic flow.

One of the key points discussed was the planned intersection improvements at Camden Crossing, the entrance to Lake Caroline. While there were initial considerations to reduce the number of lanes on the west end of the project, further analysis led to the decision to maintain the five-lane design, aligning with the Mississippi Department of Transportation's plans for Highway 463, which is set to undergo construction in May 2026.

Wells also addressed utility coordination, noting that meetings with utility companies have been productive. Most companies indicated they could relocate their facilities within six months of receiving preliminary right-of-way plans. However, the timeline for overhead power relocation is longer, as it will begin only after the county purchases the necessary right-of-way.

Currently, the project affects approximately 40 to 45 parcels of land. Wells emphasized the importance of public involvement, mentioning a recent meeting with the Hartfield Homeowners Association (HOA) to discuss potential changes to their entrance due to the project. The HOA is considering alternatives, and further discussions will take place to address their concerns.

Looking ahead, Wells projected that the environmental report would be submitted soon, with preliminary plans expected to be completed by the end of the year. The team will continue to coordinate with utility companies and begin surveying affected parcels, ensuring that the project remains on track.
