School District Updates Major Construction Projects Ahead of New School Year

Summer is in full swing, and New Caney ISD is making significant strides in its construction projects, ensuring schools are ready for students' return in August. During the recent Board of Trustees meeting, officials provided an upbeat update on various bond-funded initiatives that are transforming the district's facilities.

Westport Phase 2 is on track to be fully operational, with only the covered practice facility remaining under construction. This addition will be completed in time for the new school year. Meanwhile, the Haimedale entry is set to welcome students as they return, and substantial progress has been made at McKinney High School, where phases 1 and 2 of the career tech and athletic projects are nearing completion.

Exciting developments are also underway for the Allen Phillips School, which is scheduled to open in August. The alternative school PLC is relocating behind Pine Valley, with demolition and remodeling already completed. The district's central office is also moving to a new location, with plans to finalize the general contractor recommendations during the meeting.

Looking ahead, the transportation operation project is slated for completion by spring 2027, while design work for Fort High School is already in progress. This includes enhancements such as covered practice facilities, additional career and technical education spaces, and new lighting for the fields, all expected to wrap up by summer 2028.

In addition to these projects, the district is also focusing on behavioral and emotional support for elementary students through a new program aimed at enhancing social training. Plans for a sixth middle school on the Casey property are also in the works, indicating a commitment to expanding educational opportunities in the district.
