Coffee County Approves Shared Cost for Dock Repairs at Coffee County Lake

Coffey County officials took significant steps towards improving local infrastructure during their recent meeting on July 22, 2025. A key highlight was the approval of a local road maintenance agreement between the Coffey County Board of Commissioners and the City of Lamo, aimed at maintaining two critical lake roads. Road and Bridge Superintendent Bridal Durst emphasized the importance of this agreement, noting that residents in the area pay county taxes and deserve well-maintained roads.

The agreement, which received unanimous support from the commissioners, will allow the county to manage the maintenance of these roads while the city will continue to handle mowing and reimburse the county for material costs. This collaborative effort is expected to enhance accessibility for homeowners and visitors alike.

In another significant discussion, Economic Development Director Jenny Tackman proposed a plan to repair the dock at Coffee County Lake. Tackman revealed that the dock's walkway is in dire need of replacement, with an estimated cost of $53,358 for a complete overhaul. She suggested a cost-sharing arrangement with Evergy, where both parties would cover half of the expenses. Tackman highlighted the dock's importance for recreational activities, noting that over 3,000 visitors utilized the lake last year.

The commissioners expressed their support for exploring alternative bids to ensure the best value for the county. Tackman committed to gathering more information and potential options before moving forward.
