Michael Baker Updates Progress on Stribling Road Project from Deweese to Catlett

The Madison County government meeting held on July 22, 2025, focused on the ongoing developments of the Stribling Road project, specifically the segment from Dewees to Catlett. Jay Stewart from Michael Baker provided a detailed update on the project's progress and future steps.

Stewart reported that over the past three months, the team has completed conceptual plans and submitted storm drainage designs. They are currently working on retaining wall designs and traffic control measures. Soil drilling has been completed, with results expected soon, although preliminary assessments indicate poor soil conditions.

The project aims to expand Stribling Road to a five-lane configuration, adding one lane on one side and two lanes on the other. The design includes a carbon gutter along the entire length of the road. Stewart mentioned that approximately 10 to 15 parcels of land will need to be acquired for the project, particularly for the construction of retaining walls, which are expected to be short, ranging from 2 to 5 feet in height.

The timeline for acquiring the necessary right-of-way is projected for the third to fourth quarter of the year, pending the completion of environmental reports, which so far have not revealed any significant issues. The project will also involve the realignment of Stribling Road at its intersection with Catlett, which is likely to feature a stop sign due to low traffic volumes.

Stewart confirmed that the project will primarily utilize existing right-of-way, although it may require the purchase of a house at the corner of the intersection, a necessity acknowledged since the project's inception.

The meeting concluded with an invitation for questions, indicating ongoing community engagement as the project progresses. Overall, the Stribling Road project is on track, with significant steps taken towards its completion.
