Oak Park Village Board approves liquor license for Fat Cat Art Gallery

Oak Park's Village Board has taken a significant step to enhance the local arts scene by approving a new liquor license for Fat Cat Art Gallery. During the meeting on July 22, 2025, the Board unanimously voted to adopt an ordinance that allows the gallery, located at 19 Harrison Street, to serve beer, wine, and sparkling wine during gallery openings and arts and crafts events.

The newly approved Class D19 liquor license is designed specifically for arts and crafts establishments, enabling venues like Fat Cat Art Gallery to host events that combine art with social experiences. This move aligns with similar offerings in larger cities, such as Chicago, where patrons often enjoy beverages while engaging with art.

Assistant Village Attorney Rashida Jackson explained that the Liquor Control Review Board had previously reviewed the application and recommended approval. The license will not only benefit Fat Cat Art Gallery but also support other galleries in the Harrison art district, fostering a vibrant community atmosphere.

Gallery owner Raymond Call Jr. expressed enthusiasm about the new license, highlighting its potential to attract visitors and enhance the overall experience at the gallery. He noted that the ability to serve alcohol will allow for events like "sip and paint" nights, making art more accessible and enjoyable for the community.
