Health Department Selects Landmark Architects for Renovation Project

The Reno County Board of County Commissioners has taken a significant step towards improving local health services by recommending Landmark Architects for the renovation of the health department. This decision, made during the meeting on July 23, 2025, follows a thorough selection process where a panel, including commissioners and health department officials, interviewed eight qualified architectural firms.

The renovation aims to modernize the health department's facilities, which have not seen substantial updates since their construction in 1982. Key improvements will include the addition of more exam rooms, conference space, and storage, as well as making the building ADA compliant. Currently, the entrance is not accessible, with a steep ramp that poses challenges for individuals with disabilities. The planned renovations will address these issues, ensuring that all residents can access health services comfortably and safely.

Commissioner Parks highlighted the importance of aligning the health department renovation timeline with the completion of the EMS station project, which is expected to finish next year. This strategic planning will allow for a smooth transition and timely commencement of the health department renovations.

Funding for the project will come from the health capital outlay fund, which currently holds over a million dollars. This financial strategy ensures that the renovation will not impact other capital improvement projects, allowing for a focused investment in public health infrastructure.
