Sarasota Officials Discuss 2024 Budget Uncertainties and State Funding Delays

Sarasota County School Board officials are grappling with uncertainty as they prepare the budget for the upcoming year without a clear starting balance. During a recent work session, board members discussed the delay in receiving the fourth funding calculation from the Florida Department of Education, which typically arrives in April or May. This delay complicates budget planning, as it leaves the district unsure of its financial standing and potential adjustments.

The board highlighted that they are currently operating based on the third funding calculation from October, which does not reflect the latest student enrollment data.
