New Business Riverfront Spa Opens in New London with Significant Community Events

The meeting commenced with a report on new businesses in the area. April, a committee member, announced the opening of the Riverfront Spa at 504 West North Water Street, previously occupied by QPS. The spa, operated by a family from Chicago, offers services seven days a week from 8 AM to 9 PM. Additionally, updates were provided on the ongoing $700,000 renovation of Taco Bell, which is expected to be completed shortly.

Further discussions included renovations to the former buyer's guide building at 416 West Northwest Water Street, which houses multiple businesses. The committee also highlighted the opening of Polished Nail Nook, a new nail salon offering unique services such as fine line tattoos.

The meeting addressed real estate updates, including a price correction for theater parcels and a recent accepted offer for the former Touch and Tan building. The committee reported a successful summer kickoff event held on June 6, which attracted approximately 3,800 attendees and featured local vendors, live music, and family activities. The event generated an estimated $118,335 in local economic impact, showcasing strong community engagement.

In addition to business updates, the committee discussed the ongoing city slogan voting, which will conclude on August 19. The top three slogan options are "Small Town Big Welcome," "Where the River Leads Home," and "Where the Wolf Flows Community Grows."

The meeting concluded with a report on the facade improvement grant applications, which have nearly exhausted their funds, indicating a positive impact on downtown aesthetics. The committee also announced that New London has been selected for a strategic planning and revitalization program, focusing on conceptual design work near the Berninger Riverwalk.
