Carlsbad Library Board Discusses Donations and Upcoming Staff Development Day

The City of Carlsbad's Library Board of Trustees convened on July 23, 2025, to discuss significant developments and community contributions that will enhance library services and programming. A key highlight from the meeting was the unanimous self-nomination of Trustee McBride to continue serving on the board, emphasizing the importance of volunteer involvement in advancing library initiatives.

Deputy Library Director Katie Nye reported that the library received substantial donations totaling approximately $335,000 from the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation and the Friends of the Library. These funds are crucial for supporting various programs, supplies, and events that benefit the Carlsbad community. Nye also acknowledged the recent loss of two dedicated volunteers, Barbara Bladen and Pat Roberts, who significantly contributed to the library's mission and will be missed by their peers.

In addition to these updates, Nye announced that the library will hold a Staff Development Day on September 18, during which all library locations will close until 3 PM. This day aims to enhance staff skills and improve customer service, reflecting the library's commitment to serving the community effectively.

Looking ahead, the board is excited about the continuation of the state library parks pass program, which will remain in effect at least through December. Nye also introduced a new interactive offering: grama boards that families can check out to explore music and creativity at home. Furthermore, the upcoming exhibit at the Canon Gallery, titled "Printed and Stitched," will open on July 25, showcasing the collaborative work of printmakers and quilters.
