Pittsburgh Council Declares June 28 2025 Squirrel Hill Night Market Day

The Pittsburgh City Council held a regular meeting on June 24, 2025, where they discussed various community initiatives, including a significant proclamation for the upcoming Squirrel Hill Night Markets.

The meeting began with a focus on the Squirrel Hill Night Markets, which are set to celebrate their tenth anniversary this season. The markets, co-hosted by Uncover Squirrel Hill and I Made It Market, have become a staple summer event since their inception in 2015. They consistently attract over 10,000 visitors each night, contributing to local economic activity and enhancing the visibility of the Squirrel Hill business district.

Council members highlighted the markets' role in supporting local artisans and businesses, noting that over 120 vendors participate, with 30% being new local businesses. The markets are designed to be inclusive, featuring a diverse range of vendors, including those from LGBTQIA+, Black, and minority backgrounds. The event is modeled after vibrant open-air bazaars found in Asia and Europe, showcasing the cultural richness of Squirrel Hill through food, art, and entertainment.

The council acknowledged the efforts of key individuals and community volunteers who have dedicated countless hours to ensure the success of the markets. Special recognition was given to Carrie Nardini and Jameson Judah Combs for their leadership in organizing the events, as well as to the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition for their contributions to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment during the markets.

In a unanimous decision, the council declared Saturday, June 28, 2025, as Squirrel Hill Night Market Day in Pittsburgh, marking the start of this season's festivities. The motion was approved with a show of support from all council members present.

The meeting concluded with a sense of excitement for the upcoming markets, which are expected to further stimulate social interaction and community bonding in Squirrel Hill.
