Safety and Accessibility Take Center Stage at Tallmadge City Council Meeting

During the Tallmadge City Council meeting on July 24, 2025, community safety and accessibility emerged as pressing topics, with residents voicing concerns about walkability and infrastructure improvements.

One resident highlighted the urgent need for sidewalks along Kent Drive, particularly from Heritage to Outlook, where families navigate deep ditches while walking with strollers and children on bikes. "It's nuts over there," he warned, emphasizing that without immediate action, a serious accident could occur. He also pointed out that East Garwood, a main route to Lions Park, lacks sidewalks, further complicating pedestrian safety.

Another speaker, Scott Heilman, expressed gratitude for the city’s efforts in maintaining local cemeteries but lamented the postponement of the East Avenue widening project until 2027. This delay has left residents uncertain about future landscaping plans due to potential yard loss. Heilman reiterated his long-standing push for sidewalks, underscoring their importance for community safety.

In response, city officials acknowledged the concerns and clarified that the delay in the East Avenue project is due to grant funding issues beyond their control. They assured residents that they are actively seeking solutions to improve walkability in the area.

The meeting also featured a moment of recognition for Nate May, a dedicated volunteer with the Tallmadge Marlins swim team. He was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his 15 years of service, highlighting the importance of community involvement in local programs.
