Library Considers Adding Boston Herald Amid Rising Costs and Delivery Issues

The Lakeville Library Board of Trustees is considering new additions to its newspaper offerings in response to community interest. During a recent meeting, discussions highlighted requests for the Atlantic and Mother Earth News, as well as the Boston Herald. However, challenges with delivery and rising costs were also noted. The price for the Sunday edition of the Boston Globe has increased by $10, now costing $15, which may impact its accessibility for patrons.

Concerns were raised about the Boston Herald's availability, as it is not delivered in the area, leading to delays in receiving the paper by mail. Patrons have expressed frustration over receiving editions days or even weeks late, which diminishes the value of a daily news source.

In addition to newspaper discussions, the library's youth services programs are thriving. Story hours, particularly the Thursday afternoon sessions, have seen strong attendance. Joyce, the youth services coordinator, is exploring the possibility of making the afternoon story hour a permanent fixture. If this change occurs, the library's STEAM afternoons may be rescheduled to Mondays or Tuesdays to accommodate the new schedule.
