City Council Approves Surplus Sale of Two Police Ford Explorers

Portage City officials took significant steps towards enhancing community services and managing city resources during the Common Council meeting held on July 25, 2025. A key decision was the approval of a resolution authorizing the issuance of general obligation promissory notes totaling $3.65 million. This funding will support various city projects and is expected to yield approximately $144,500 in savings on principal and interest payments compared to previous estimates.

The council also discussed the surplus of two police department vehicles, a 2021 and a 2020 Ford Explorer, which are no longer in service. These vehicles will be auctioned off, with proceeds directed towards the purchase of new squads in the upcoming year. In addition, the council addressed the ongoing utility and resurfacing projects, with design consultant Bierbecker involved in the survey work. The funding for these projects is allocated from the city’s utility budget and parkland funds, ensuring that essential infrastructure improvements continue to progress.

Lastly, the council reviewed a Class B combination license application for 1873 Bar and Grill, LLC, which is set to lease a property at 301 DeWitt Street. All necessary paperwork and fees have been submitted, paving the way for the establishment of this new business in the community.
