Morrow County Public Health Updates Services and Community Outreach Efforts

The Morrow County Board of Commissioners convened on July 18, 2025, to discuss various public health initiatives and community services. The meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts of the county's health department to enhance the well-being of its residents.

The health department's quarterly report was presented, emphasizing its primary goal of ensuring that every household in Morrow County is safe and connected to essential services. Among the key services mentioned was the establishment of a diaper bank, which provides diapers to families in need through donations from local churches. Additionally, a new drug take-back program was introduced, allowing residents to safely dispose of expired or unneeded medications.

The report also detailed community outreach efforts, including participation in events hosted by the Mexican and Guatemalan consulates, where health education and vaccinations were provided. This initiative aimed to strengthen relationships with the local Hispanic community, utilizing bilingual staff to overcome language barriers.

Updates on the school-based health center were shared, noting that family planning services would soon be available following necessary certifications. The department is also preparing for the upcoming flu season, planning to offer on-site vaccinations at various businesses and schools throughout the county.

A significant focus of the meeting was the nitrate and clean water situation affecting public health. Open houses are scheduled for July 30 at Riverside High School in Boardman, providing an opportunity for well owners to ask questions and receive information. Current statistics indicate that 290 households are testing above the safe nitrate level, with 316 households receiving water deliveries and 113 filtration systems installed.

Lastly, the Office of Resilience and Emergency Management has transitioned to a maintenance phase, prompting Umatilla County to assist with ongoing well testing in Morrow County every other week.
