Neighborhood Gas Station Seeks Extended Operating Hours in Holland Michigan

In a recent Board of Appeals meeting in Holland City, local residents voiced strong support for a gas station's request to extend its operating hours. The station, recently taken over by new owners, aims to shift its hours from the current 9 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Saturday, to a more community-friendly schedule of 6 AM to 11 PM on weekdays and 7 AM to 9 PM on Sundays.

The owners, who have invested significantly in renovations and improvements, emphasized their commitment to serving the neighborhood as a reliable and accessible resource. They highlighted the importance of being open earlier for morning commuters and later for evening customers, noting that many residents prefer their station over competitors due to better service and a more welcoming environment.

During the meeting, Harmanjot Singh, one of the new owners, explained that the previous operating hours were a barrier to business success. He shared that when they initially operated without restrictions, sales were significantly higher, with gas sales reaching up to 1,000 gallons a day. However, since adhering to the restricted hours, sales have dropped to around 500 to 600 gallons daily.

Community members echoed Singh's sentiments, with several residents expressing gratitude for the improvements made to the station and advocating for the extended hours. Angela Rabe, a local resident, praised the new owners for revitalizing the property, which had fallen into disrepair under previous management. She argued that allowing the station to operate seven days a week would not only benefit the owners but also enhance the neighborhood's overall appeal and property values.

The board members engaged in discussions about the potential benefits of the extended hours, with some questioning the rationale behind different Sunday hours compared to the rest of the week. Singh clarified that while he would prefer to operate 24/7, he wanted to respect community sentiments and not overreach in their application.

As the meeting concluded, the board acknowledged the strong community support for the gas station's request, which reflects a broader desire for accessible local services that cater to residents' needs.
