Edinburg School District Approves $3.2M Drainage Project with County Collaboration

Edinburg CISD is set to embark on a significant infrastructure project, with an estimated cost of $3.29 million, aimed at improving facilities at Edinburg North High School. During the Facilities Committee Meeting held on July 24, 2025, key stakeholders discussed the project's timeline and the collaborative efforts between the district, Hidalgo County, and the City of Edinburg.

The project will involve excavation and grading work, which is crucial for the upcoming marching season. Committee members emphasized the importance of coordinating construction activities to minimize disruptions for the school's band program. The district has already signed an interlocal agreement with the Hidalgo County Drainage District, which will assist in excavating and hauling materials, significantly reducing costs for the district.

The City of Edinburg will contribute an in-kind value of approximately $237,000 by waiving disposal fees for materials, further supporting the project. The district's share of the costs is projected to be around $1.65 million, which represents about 50% of the total expenses.

Committee members expressed urgency in moving forward, noting that the project has been "long overdue," with some aspects dating back 35 years. Plans for selecting a contractor for the fine grading work are already underway, with the bid packet prepared for review.

Additionally, the committee acknowledged the support from local businesses, particularly Kubota Motors, which has facilitated access to necessary properties for the project. This collaboration highlights the community's commitment to enhancing educational facilities and ensuring that extracurricular activities can proceed without interruption.

As the district prepares to present the interlocal agreement for full board approval, stakeholders remain optimistic about the positive impact this project will have on the Edinburg North community and its students.
